The objective of my personal text score was to challenge the participant by asking them to look at the nature of all text scores, not just one self-contained activity. Text scores lose a significant amount of their meaning if constant physical participation is not a part of the experience, and most individuals who partake in text scores have begun to recognize this pattern even if they are not fully conscious of it. The majority of those who participate in text scores are willing to relinquish an enormous amount of control over their actions, basically doing whatever the text score tells them to. For my text score, I wanted to offer activities that escalate towards a task that the participant is psychologically incapable of doing, forcing them to reject the final task and reevaluate what had motivated their previous actions. In the event that the participant does not outright reject the final task, they will instead be presented with a more sincere message which will hopefully encourage a similar form of reflection. Each task, not counting the physical treks between points, relates to a stage from the Kübler-Ross Model of Grief. This is foreshadowed by the text score’s title.
